Linux host

SlateVM for Linux.

Run Linux and Windows virtual machines on the Linux kernel hypervisor (KVM) — the same app, per-VM windows, hands-off installs, and MCP contract as Mac and Windows. x64 on Ubuntu 24.04, ARM64 on Ubuntu 26.04 including Raspberry Pi 5.

Guests

Linux desktop and server, and Windows guests (x64 on x64 hosts, ARM64 on ARM64 hosts).

Requirements

Ubuntu 24.04 (x64) or Ubuntu 26.04 (ARM64, including Raspberry Pi 5) with hardware virtualization (KVM). Installs with apt (the package brings libvirt and QEMU; updates come with sudo apt upgrade). On other distributions, the self-updating AppImage runs with your distribution’s libvirt, QEMU, and swtpm (glibc 2.39 or newer).

How it runs

Guests run on the hypervisor built into the Linux kernel; SlateVM provides the library, consoles, per-VM windows, and MCP.

Workstations and servers

Run VMs on a desktop or a headless server and drive them over MCP.

x64 and ARM64

The same SlateVM on both architectures.

Same tools

Every MCP tool and error code matches the Mac and Windows hosts.
