Install with apt (updates come with sudo apt upgrade):

Or the AppImage: one file, no install, and it updates itself. Your distro provides the VM stack (libvirt-daemon-system qemu-system swtpm-tools virtiofsd xorriso 7zip tesseract-ocr) and your account must be in the libvirt and kvm groups. Needs glibc 2.39 or newer (x64) / Ubuntu 26.04 level (ARM64).

Install

Up and running in a minute.

On a Mac

  1. Open the DMG and drag SlateVM into Applications.
  2. Open SlateVM. Updates install from inside the app.

On Windows

  1. Turn on Hyper-V (Windows Features), then run the MSI that matches your PC.
  2. Open SlateVM from the Start menu or desktop. Updates install from inside the app.

On Linux

  1. Add the apt repo and sudo apt install slatevm (or download the AppImage and make it executable).
  2. Sign out and back in once, then open SlateVM. The .deb updates with apt; the AppImage updates itself.

Install SlateVM

On your Mac, Windows PC, or Linux machine.

Open AI Control

Mac: SlateVM Settings → AI Control. Windows and Linux: the AI Control button in SlateVM’s title bar. Turn on the clients you use.

Restart the client

Reopen each client you enabled and approve SlateVM once when it first connects.

On Windows, use C:\Program Files\SlateVM\slatevm-mcp.exe as the command. On Linux, use /opt/slatevm/slatevm-mcp (.deb), or the path to your .AppImage with "args": ["--slatevm-mcp"].

Release confidence

Verified releases, one version everywhere.

Every release is published to immutable, versioned locations with SHA-256 digests, and SlateVM verifies signed release manifests before it installs an update. Mac and Windows ship the same version number.
